Lands’ End: Let’s go swimming
Posted by: Amy on June 10th, 2008
*Update: Congratulations to Jenny, our Lands’ End Boy’s Swimwear package winner. Jenny’s summer safety tip is, “I like to use bullfrog mosquito coast sunscreen–it is a bug spray, waterproof sunscreen. I also like to get tinted goggles for the boys–works like sunglasses (in water) and keeps their eyes protected and keeps glare of sun down.” Thanks to all who entered!
Lands’ End is a brand that I’ve been familiar with for quite a while and I know when I make a purchase from their online store, that I’m going to get excellent prices, superb customer service and quality products. They have become a much more popular choice for me lately for this reason and also because they are reaching out to bloggers (aka “my world”).
With the 90 degree weather upon us (at least in the Midwest it is), we’re ready to get out the blow up pool and dive in. Ok, that would not be such a good idea, but you know what I mean (right?). If you haven’t already, please go browse Lands’ End’s swimwear section. They have really great suits for the mama, that daddy and the kiddos. Their swimwear is protected by 50 UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor). That’s some pretty heavy protection!
We are giving away a Lands’ End BOY’S swimwear package.

Here’s what one lucky MTW reader will win:

LEARN infant/child CPR! This can save a life especially in the summer as pools, lakes and even buckets with water in them can be deadly.
June 10th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I have three boys so i would love to win such a awesome package for summer fun. always have sunscreen handy best safety for the summer!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Slather myself and everyone around me with bullfrog sunscreen! Love the prize!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I’m all about sunscreen for outdoor safety!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Great giveaway! My kids have really fair skin, so I carry hats and sunscreen around wherever we go to guard against sunburn!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Consider that light can still enter from the sides of sunglasses. Those that wrap all the way around the temples can help.
Children should wear real sunglasses—not toy sunglasses—that indicate the UV protection level. Polycarbonate lenses are the most shatter-resistant.
This is a fantastic prize package! My little fair haired imp would be so lucky!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Be aware of the riptide. No matter how strong of a swimmer you are, the ocean is powerful.
June 10th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Don’t forget a little sunscreen on the nose and cheeks – and bring bottled water everywhere with you!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Our son races his go cart during the summer, and we always make sure that he has had a good breakfast and lunch on race day. He’s also slathered with sunscreen and drinks a lot of water. Wearing a race suit, it gets pretty hot!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Little kids dehydrate faster than adults and have either no way to tell you (non-speakers) or don’t realize they are getting dehydrated. Make sure that your kidlets are drinking water all the time – and while you are at it, reapply a little sunscreen!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Plenty of sun screen, hats, t-shirts and after sun!!!
Avoid the sun between 11:00 and 4:00.
Thanks for the great giveaway! I would love to win this for my son.

Keep reapplying the sunscreen. One application does not last the entire day.
June 10th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Don’t forget bugspray. In MN we get overwhelmed if we don’t have it. Citronella works great for a “greener” approach.
June 10th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Lots of sunscreen and bugspray!!
June 10th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Drink lots of water to stay hydrated.
June 10th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
This swimwear would look super cute on my preschooler! Best safety tip: teach your child the universal signal to indicate they’re in danger-crossing arms above head. That way if you’re too far away to hear (ocean) or your child is too scared or physically unable to yell for you, you can tell right away that they need your help! Lifeguards will know they need help too.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Summer safety tip: Do not play in holes already dug in the sand at the beach. I’ve been reading more and more about sand cave-ins and people actually just “disappearing” and being found too late because of it. Scary stuff! Thanks for the giveaway.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Water shoes are a must if you going to be playing in lakes this summer.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Keep sunscreen in your purse and in the car for constant coverage.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Drink lots of fluids, even when you don’t think you’re thirsty. Make sure the kids always have a water bottle (BPA-free!) so they don’t have to stop and ask for a drink.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Find a hat that the kids will actually KEEP on their head.
I have two boys under the age of five and we would love to win this!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Wow, I could really use this for my son!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
always be in arms reach of little ones when they are in the water…even wading pools
June 10th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
use sunscreen many times
June 10th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going outside, and use sunscreen even on cloudy days. The SPF should be at least 15 and protect against UVA and UVB rays.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Wear a cool hat and drink lots of water
June 10th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Take fresh fruits .. they taste good and are good for you
June 10th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
I am a makeup artist, and extensive skincare expert for Mario Tricoci, and the BEST summer safety tip is to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen, which blocks UVA and UVB rays. This meaning, it will not only block the burning rays, but the damaging/cancer causing/aging rays as well! The best kinds are the ones with zinc-oxide in them. Any sunscreen that doesn’t say “broad spectrum” isn’t worth putting on!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Best summer safety tip is probably to avoid the heat at the hottest times of the day!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I never learned to swim and so am somewhat terrified of drowning. I insisted my son take red cross swimming lesson each summer and he loves it! He now realizes to respect the water; he knows what * could* happen. Always be prepared!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Wear sunscreen!
June 10th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Plenty of fluids and sunscreen here. We always keep a mist bottle handy for an instant “cool-down”
June 10th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
My grandson would really good in this and he could surely use it. As you know, boys are very hard on their clothing.
June 10th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Sunblock….’nuff said!
June 10th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
When the kids are tired of you pushing the water bottle all day (see the dehydration tips above), make popsicles out of 100% juice, or juice mixes with water. The kids think they’re “eating” but really it’s just more hydration!
June 10th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
My son lives at the pool in the summer – and he’ll be easy to spot in a bright green swim suit and rash guard!
June 10th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Keep extra summer hats in your car for those last minute stops at the park
Great contest I LOVE Lands End !
June 10th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Remember to cover the ears and neck in the back with sunscreen. Sometimes their hairpart too.
June 10th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
my son could totally use this, his swimming suit is just a little on the ragged side-he would love to join his friends in a new suit!
June 10th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
This would be very useful for me, with 3 boys! My tip is to always put sunscreen on the kids and reapply it regularly, and wear hats! Also, I like my kids to wear water shoes of some kind at the actual beach, because we’ve found things like broken bits of glass in the sand (not to mention crabs & jellyfish!).
June 10th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
limit sun exposure during the peak intensity hours – between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
June 10th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
*Sunscreen*Sunscreen*Sunscreen*!! My kids always complain when I put it on them, but it makes me happy to see them not getting burned like I did chronically as a kid.
June 10th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Children should always wear a swim vest at all times near water, even if they are not getting in the water just for safety. Great giveaway, thanks!
June 10th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Always wear sunblock!
June 10th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
OH, the other day as my son played his playoff baseball game in 97 degree heat, one parent brought a cooler of ice water with hand towels in it, we rubbed the towels on the boys heads, necks and arms as they needed it. It really was a lifesaver. And of course, stay hydrated.
I’d love to win.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Lots of sunscreen.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Never, ever leave children alone by a pool even for a second! Also, use tons of sunscreen!
June 10th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
remember to put senscreen on feet too!
June 10th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Wow, so many good ones already! One of my boys doesn’t sweat as much as he should, so I bring along a squirt bottle of water when we’re outdoors. Helps keep him cool and safe.
I love the Lands’ End stuff. I just ordered my boy’s school uniforms for next year.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Deat sunscreen! And don’t forget the back of the neck and tips of the ears.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Safety tip – apply more sunscreen than you think you need and buy new each year!
Thanks!
June 10th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Sunblock and hat are a must. I have my little ones wear their hats anytime they are outdoors so they are used to the idea of wearing it. Otherwise, they have to go inside.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Sunscreen always!
June 10th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Need for Grandson
June 10th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Could use this for my 5 year old.
Especially the shorts.
June 10th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
You hear so many stories of little ones getting caught in pool drains (even in public kiddie pools)so I’d say keep an eye on your child at all times (not that you aren’t already doing that!). It’s amazing how it only takes a few seconds for little ones to get hurt.
June 10th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Have your kids wear sunhats whenever possible, and if they don’t, remember to get sunscreen on their ears and neck and don’t forget the scalp where their hair is parted! (Same goes for yourself!)
June 10th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
This would be PERFECT for my son! He needs a new suit too and I love the color (green is my favorite).
June 10th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Keep the car locked and keys out of reach at all times (we do this all year round)….my son loves to play in the car, and it’s something we stopped letting him do long ago….there are way too many children overheating in cars. It’s one of many summer safety tips our pediatrician reminds us of each summer!
Thanks for the contest!

June 10th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
We use ski vests at the pool for our 2 yr old–better quality & cheaper than most safety devices made for swimming!
June 10th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
I’m not sure if this really counts as safety but Ben Gay is great for taking the itch out of mosquito bites.
June 10th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
My best summer safety tip is to always use sunscreen and to reapply it often. I have to be especially diligent about remembering to put some down the part in my hair, because I always seem to burn the top of my head if I don’t.
June 10th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Sunscreen should be a year round item. For my kids, lots of liquids is the thing. They both sweat a lot so I keep cold water and homemade juice popsicles ready.
June 10th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Always, always, always be with your child in the pool area. Even better, swim with them…
I just see too many kids playing in our apt complex’s pool without a parent even in the area and there’s never a lifeguard present. It frightens me!
June 10th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
I think the best is just to keep an eye out for strange symptoms and the bulls-eye rash after any tick bites. (Even if the rash doesn’t appear and you suspect Lyme, get it checked).
Thanks!
June 10th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
We’re a family of surfers and beach-goers. My son would love this!
gkstratos @yahoo.com
June 10th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Get a sunscreen/bug spray combo. Skin cancer and Lyme disease are no joke, and kids only hold still to get slathered up for so long.
June 10th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Make sure they are well hydrated, sunscreen is a must.
June 10th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Thank you for offering this wonderful giveaway. My best summer safety tip is always use sunscreen when the kids are outside. Even if it’s overcast. We also teach our kids water safety. Never go in water alone and without adults being there. Thank you again and please enter me.
June 10th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Always wear sunscreen!
June 10th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
You need sunscreen on even when it’s cloudy!!!
June 10th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
My best summer tip for kids lots of drinks water, koolaid, powerade. and always use sunscreen
June 10th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Watch your kids if they are by water. PLEASE!!!! It only takes a minute for them to wander off into the deep end, or flip their rafts upside down..
June 10th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Great prize!!! Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!!! It amazes me how many people “forget” they can get burnt to a crisp on cloudy days. If I had a penny for each time I’ve heard, “It wasn’t sunny…” I’d be rich!
June 10th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
you can never have too much sunscreen, bug spray or water to drink
June 10th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Always wear sunscreen & reapply often through out the day even when it’s foggy, and when you’re on the beach (especially @ the ocean) never turn your back on the water. Waves are mysterious things & you never know what one will do.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Great for the sun!
June 10th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Always wear your bike helmets.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Keep extra sealed bottles of water in the car (for that inevitable flat tire or overheated car stranding) and a bottle of suncreen everywhere (purse, diaper bag, backpack, car, toiletry bag, etc…)!
June 10th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
When we go to the lake house, my toddler wears a life vest the whole time. Just in case he falls into the water from the dock.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Everyone, including baby, needs sunscreen and to limit time in the sun. California Baby is the most non-toxic in the toxic database.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Wear the bike helmets! I’ve seen many kids without lately…
June 10th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
use baby power to get sand off of your feet at the beach when it is time to go home
June 10th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
I stock up on bug repellent during the summer. The mosquitos are already out in full force this summer.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
i carry paper cups and straws in the car along with raisins…water and sugar are great when things seem to fall apart…
hats and shoes are a must in my house too.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Keep and eye on kids if you are on a house boat, don’t let them swim and play under the boat (they might, since some boats are designed with a space under there where the exhaust comes outs and that exhaust might seem like it is breathable to them but it’s not and they’ll get carbon monoxide poisoning)
June 10th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
ALWAYS keep a constant eye on your child around the pool. I was a lifeguard and I know how quickly things can happen.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Always wear sunscreen!!
June 10th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
My child cannot go outside without sunscreen!!! Awesome giveaway!
June 10th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Sunscreen isn’t enough. When summer rolls around, invest in sun-protective hats for the whole family to reduce UV rays to vulnerable faces, heads and necks.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
This is so perfect for the little man in my life !
Thank you so much for offering this wonderful giveaway.
I would LOVE to win !!

June 11th, 2008 at 3:17 am
sunscreen at all times- even just driving in the car
June 11th, 2008 at 4:21 am
Cute color! I always put rash guards on my kids — great sun protection! Thanks for a great contest!
June 11th, 2008 at 4:45 am
take a picture on your cell phone of your kids before you go anywhere, if you do somehow get seperated, you have an up to date photo w/what they were wearing
June 11th, 2008 at 5:09 am
Put sunscreen on in the morning–even if you aren’t planning on going anywhere, or forget about it when they run outside, at least they’ve got some protection. And carry water everywhere. It’s important that kids (especially) stay hydrated.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:18 am
Without a doubt, sunscreen is a must. I keep a bottle in my car at all times for spur of the moment outings.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:19 am
At our house, we go through plenty of sunscreen and insect repellant. We’re extra careful to get complete coverage with the sunscreen.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:21 am
Wear sunscreen even when swimming. The water does not protect from burns.
June 11th, 2008 at 5:26 am
Keep a constant eye on children in the pool
June 11th, 2008 at 5:35 am
best summer tip: water water water! drink enough to stay hydrated and cool!
June 11th, 2008 at 5:53 am
MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS UNDERSTAND WATER SAFETY…. GET THEM SWIM LESSONS BUT STILL KNOW WHO EVER IS WITH THEM KNOWS TO WATCH THEM AT ALL TIMES NEAR WATER
June 11th, 2008 at 6:15 am
Bring sunscreen with you everywhere! I keep a small tube of 40 in my purse at all times.

Make sure kids have on helmets every time they ride bicycles.
June 11th, 2008 at 6:29 am

June 11th, 2008 at 6:31 am
Use sunscreen and insect repellant and wear a hat.
June 11th, 2008 at 6:39 am
always wear bur repellant and sun screen!!
June 11th, 2008 at 6:49 am
Don’t forget to constantly reapply sunscreen!
June 11th, 2008 at 7:03 am
The trick with sunscreen is that many people don’t apply it correctly! For true sun protection, you need to apply one whole ounce (about a shot-glass worth) at least 30 minutes before stepping outside, and re-apply every two hours, one ounce each time. For example: Huggies Little Swimmers SPF 50 Continuous Spray has 6 ounces of sunscreen. That’s just 6 applications. If it lasts longer, then you haven’t been using nearly enough.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Never leave kids alone near water, ANY water!
June 11th, 2008 at 7:11 am
My grandson wouldLook adorable in this!
June 11th, 2008 at 7:12 am
My grandkids always have their shoes (flops, crocs) on in our yard. Too many bees.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:13 am
My best summer safety tip would be to wear shoes of some kind always, even though the temptation is to go barefoot! Even those little water shoes provide some protection from burning sand, dog poo, discarded nails, and unexpected glass slivers.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:19 am
Wear lots and lots of sunscreen. You make think that since the sun is out there is no chance of sunburn, but there is! Getting a bad sunburn just once greatly increases your chance of skin cancer later on in life.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:22 am
Take a CPR class. Knowledge is power.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:30 am
Definitely be sure to stay hydrated and use a good sunscreen!
June 11th, 2008 at 7:51 am
We’re already baking in SC–it’s all about sunscreen and lots of water for us.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Always keep gates LOCKED and doors locked that lead to water.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:12 am
It’s important to reapply sunscreen and reminding your kids to drink lots of fluids.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:14 am
My safety tip is to have your child wear an id bracelet in case they get lost (hopefully never) in a crowd.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:29 am
You should always have anti itch cream on you or in your car. Between red ants and mosquitos – it’s a lifesaver!
June 11th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Always wear sun block when out side in the summer.
June 11th, 2008 at 8:43 am
I always carry sunscreen and bug spray in the diaper bag, so we are never without it!
June 11th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Don’t forget the tops and backs of ear for sunscreen, and never go out without gallons of water! lol.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:06 am
Spray sunscreens (easier to chase kids and get on at the same time!), drink tons and tons of water (bring reusable/refillable bottles for each family member everywhere you go), helmets are a MUST when riding bikes (NO EXCEPTIONS!), and NO SWIMMING WITHOUT AN ADULT PRESENT for children AND teens!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:11 am
use sunscreen
June 11th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Sunscreen, never leave your child unattended in water (no matter how swallow the pool is), increase your water intake, take breaks from the heat, and most of all – have fun!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Don’t leave kids or pets in the car! They can overheat quickly.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:29 am
My summer safety tip is, as they say in Australia – Slip, Slop, Slaap: slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:35 am
Be sure to slather little ones (and yourself!) with a sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Bonus points if it’s on the “safe” list at cosmeticdatabase.com (I’m not affiliated with them, just a cautious momma)
June 11th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Since so many have already shared about sunscreen/hydration/bugspray I’m gonna go a little different and say always wear shoes! There are sharp shells and sometimes glass on beaches, even sharp rocks can cut little feet!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Mine would be sunscreen and bug spray!!!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Nice package. Thanx for the contest.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Sunscreen, a must.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:04 am
Remember to RE-APPLY sunblock. That’s what always gets me into trouble – I need to remember to put it on again after a few hours, since I burn like a lobster. Ever since I’ve had Kicker though, I’ve been vigilant with his sunscreen, though I still forget with mine.
June 11th, 2008 at 10:13 am
I am a big fan of using sun protection – sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and finding shade all rank high in my priority list, for me and the kiddos.
Great giveaway!
June 11th, 2008 at 10:21 am
put a life jacket on your LO!
June 11th, 2008 at 10:26 am

my life before this existed was indoors…sunscreen is a skin-saver!
June 11th, 2008 at 10:34 am
SUNSCREEN-SUNSCREEN & WATER!
This is such a great giveaway- thanks!
June 11th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Always wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat! Thanks
June 11th, 2008 at 11:08 am
My best summer tip would probably have to be Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! I always slather SPF70 on my child before we go anywhere! I would love to win this for my son!
June 11th, 2008 at 11:15 am
We make sure our daughter has sunscreen on at least 15 minutes BEFORE going out in the sun. Also she wears aqua socks in the ocean to prevent stepping on sharp shells or rocks. The other thing is plenty of water for hydration on those hot days!
June 11th, 2008 at 11:22 am

June 11th, 2008 at 11:42 am
We always take sunscreen and bottled water with us. The kids get so thirsty when playing in the sand and water.
June 11th, 2008 at 11:49 am

June 11th, 2008 at 11:53 am

June 11th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Drink water and more water, sunscreen, and watch kids around water always!
June 11th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Keep an “emergency kit/first aid kit” in your car for accidents that may happen when you are on the go.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! Oh and anytime we are near a reservoir or lake, I’m constantly reminding my kids to keep their hands out of their mouths. The water is just nasty and will make them sick!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Best summer safety tip? Everyone’s listed great ones already in the previous 172 comments, but I’ll just reiterate how incredibly important it is to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated if you need to be outside for extended periods of time. A beloved swim coach of mine from when I was little died of heat stroke one summer while he was playing rugby.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Keep a blanket in the car and cover the car seat when it’s exposed to the sun. It will keep the metal on the buckle from heating up to the point where it could burn.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Always use a life jacket with kids at the lake or the beach – even if you think they are good swimmers. Especially when kids are in a boat – they often complain about having to wear a life jacket but it is SO important. Thanks for the giveaway!
June 11th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Wear plenty of sunscreen & always reapply! And, never let children get out of your sight around water. Thanks for the chance to win!
June 11th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Teach your children to watch where they are jumping. It’s so unsafe and too many kids aren’t looking first!
June 11th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Use plenty of bug spray
June 12th, 2008 at 2:23 am
My son would look snazzy in this. It’s the same tips you hear all the time, but they are tried and true: Use sunscreen, stay out of the direct sun and don’t be out in the heat for long periods of time. Drinks plenty of fluids, especially water.
June 12th, 2008 at 3:17 am
Don’t leave your kids alone near water for 1 minute!
June 12th, 2008 at 3:44 am
Never go anywhere alone…!!!The more the better…safety in numbers.
June 12th, 2008 at 5:10 am
Im just going to echo all the other posts, everyone has said the same things I would – use tons of sunscreen, don’t be out in the hottest part of the day, drink lots of water.
I’d love this set for my FAIR skinned redheaded 4 yr old boy. Thank you!!
June 12th, 2008 at 6:30 am

June 12th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Apply sunscreen before sun and keep reapplying often. Sunglasses too.
June 12th, 2008 at 10:46 am
NEVER NEVER NEVER assume your child is safe just because the water is shallow or they know how to swim. Keep an adult around at all times (that is not distracted by anything else)
June 12th, 2008 at 11:13 am
This sweepstakes has been featured on Sweepstakes Advantage, http://www.sweepsadvantage.com. The Web’s Largest Directory of Free Online Sweepstakes. Good Luck to Everyone!
June 12th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
I make sure to take along snacks like carrots and apples which have a high water content and I also bring the kids’ water bottles in their own individual backpacks. That way, we can be sure everyone has snacks and water so they don’t get dehydrated in the hot summer sun, but I don’t get a backache from having to carry it all myself.
June 12th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Just in time for the summer. Hope to win.
Thanks.
June 12th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
i would say the thing i make sure to do is stock up on the fun kid bandaids, b/c summer is full of outdoor activities, and lots of it, which means more falls, which means more booboos.
thanks for the giveaway!!!
June 12th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Nice contest! Sunscreen is such a must
June 12th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Sunscreen is a must, but when we are at the beach, each time the boys come out of the water from a ride in on a wave, they need to make sure they are in front of a landmark (lifeguard tower, etc) in order to keep from “drifting” down the shore…
June 12th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Land’s End to the rescue of fair skinned little red headed guys!!
June 12th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Use lots of sunscreen— My grandson would look so adoreable in that!
June 12th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
drink lots of water
June 12th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Apply sunscreen at least 30 min BEFORE going outdoors–that way it has time to absorb and you’re not just slathering your baby/child at the pool.
June 12th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
There no such thing as a sunburn lotion that provides too much protection
June 12th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Always watch your kids around water!!
June 12th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Supervision around any water-pools or lakes etc. is tops on my list. swimming lessons as well to help them gain the water safety skills that are so important.
June 12th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
This is such an odd coincidence! We went to the pool today and there were tons of kids there. My husband and I were getting settled and in a matter of 30 seconds our 3 year old was mixed in the crowd and we couldn’t find him. Thankfully the lifeguard did and he was returned. I told my husband I was going to buy my son a flourescent yellow rashguard so he’d stand out in the swarm. The swimware prize package may not be flourescent but it would be perfect for my wanderer! My tip….Don’t take your eyes off your kids at the pool.
June 12th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
perfect for Ian, he can’t stand having sunscreen put on , so the fewer places I have to put on him the better LOL
June 12th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

June 13th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Don’t forget the exposure of sun on face, arms and legs while in the car seat.
Good to have UVB clothing for added protection.
June 13th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

June 13th, 2008 at 9:58 pm

June 14th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Lands End makes great swimwear. I’d love to win this for my little swimmer.
Best summer safety tip: Make sure your kids drink plenty of water. Bring water bottles to the playground – whenever I forget we end up leaving earlier than planned because we all get hot and thirsty.
June 14th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Drink water not soda and sugary drinks. Thanks
June 14th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I’d love to win it for my son! He doesn’t have anything like this and it would be great!
June 14th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
While burning trash never ever get close. We have a friend who was in an explosion about a year and a 1/2 ago. He is scared all over. His legs got infected. He’s now all excited waiting on some new legs. Be thankful and never complain, because there’s always someone who is suffering a lot more.
June 14th, 2008 at 10:38 pm

June 16th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Bug spray & sunscreen. We’re always so surprised how many bug knicks we each get on our walks to the park…
June 16th, 2008 at 10:11 am
In our neck of the woods, watch for rattlesnakes is one of the most important things we do in summer. We’ve seen more than enough of them on our acreage.
June 16th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Always be sure you have chapstick in your pocket. ALWAYS
June 16th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
We love using babypowder to get the sand off at the beach. It comes off so easily and we don’t have to wait in line at the showers.
June 16th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Make sure your child wears a helmet on every bike ride they take.
June 16th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
I would love this for the boys. I can never seem to find the boys swimsuits when I need them.
June 16th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Editing earlier comment: Best summer safety tip: Put sunscreen on before you go outside
June 16th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Absolutely put sunscreen on . It is important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
June 16th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Sunscreen and supervision are both so vital for a safe summer.
June 16th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
My favorite summer safety tip is to put your kids in swimwear that has more coverage. Lands’ End has plenty of these suits. My daughter and son both love wearing the shorts/t-shirt with SPF protection, and it takes a lot less time to “lube them up” with sunscreen before swimming!
June 16th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
I would say that it is important to be careful around water. Unfortunately children can get into trouble very quickly. Always supervise children around water!
Awesome giveaway
June 16th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Best summer safety tips:
Lots of sunscreen
Lots of water
Be near the pool if kids are swimming
They are all pretty standard tips, but they are all very good
June 17th, 2008 at 10:18 am

June 17th, 2008 at 11:45 am

Safety tip? Swimming lessons for your kids. Essential!
June 17th, 2008 at 11:48 am

June 17th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
I volunteer at the Children’s Hospital–I would love to give it to a child there!
June 17th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Swim with your child. It builds confidence. If you don’t know how to swim, learn with them.
June 17th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
My safety tip is NO running around the pool. Too many accidents happen this way! — thanks for the chance.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Remember to wear a helmet while riding a bike
June 18th, 2008 at 1:19 am
Remember to wear a helmet while bike riding

Sunscreen!!!!
June 18th, 2008 at 10:34 am
My 2 yr old loves the beach.
So I carry lots of sunblock, and lots of water too… and plenty of Thomas bandaids.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Keep sunscreen on the kids, even when just riding in the car. Tinted window screens are helping to keep my little son’s cheeks from becoming pink.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Don’t forget to reapply the sunscreen (unfortunately this is the voice of experience)
June 18th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Always watch your children (and any other children) around water, even if you know they can swim. Things happen and they only take a second. Make sure you are close by in case something does.
June 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I think my best tip would to keep your family hydrated especially here in Arizona, we always have bottled water or sports drinks whenever we go out.
June 18th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen more frequently when the kids have been splashing around in the water, even if the label says “waterproof”.
June 18th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
We have big family (6 kids all together, four at home) so we always use the buddy system to keep track of each other when we are out and about.
June 18th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Cute stuff!
June 18th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Sunscreen, sunscreen and more sunscreen!
Thanks for the chance to win! My son would love it!
June 18th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I would love to win for my son. This is exactly his style! I love the added coverage, during the summer the most important thing to remember is UV protection!
June 18th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
I see so many bad choices at the pool and the beach with parents not protecting their children’s skin. Cover up those kids! And use sunscreen!
June 18th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Don’t forget the sunscreen!
June 19th, 2008 at 5:34 am
Make sure to drink plenty of fluids because by the time you think you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.
This is a great-looking outfit that would make the wearer the envy of all the boys.
June 19th, 2008 at 5:40 am
This is one totally awesome swimsuit. The wearer of this outfit would get plenty of compliments and would have the added bonus of the SPF. Totally ingenious!
June 19th, 2008 at 6:48 am
This outfit would be great for my grandson.
Never take your eyes off you children when they are in the water.
June 19th, 2008 at 10:00 am
My grandkids really enjoy the comfort of Lands End clothing:)
Enjoy the water, but keep the kiddies safe by watching them constantly whenever they are near water.
June 19th, 2008 at 10:34 am
I like to use bullfrog mosquito coast sunscreen–it is a bug spray, waterproof sunscreen. I also like to get tinted goggles for the boys–works like sunglasses (in water) and keeps their eyes protected and keeps glare of sun down.
Have a great summer!
Jenny
June 19th, 2008 at 11:58 am
We always take a cooler with water, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses/tinted goggles. My children love to swim so we are always prepared!!
June 19th, 2008 at 12:55 pm

June 21st, 2008 at 5:22 am

June 21st, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Of course, dont do outside activites until later in the day.

June 22nd, 2008 at 11:20 am
Never swim alone. and use that sunscreen
June 22nd, 2008 at 12:28 pm
If you or family members have private pools, ensure that someone is watching your little one in the house and outside at all times. It is amazing how quickly kids can get out and try to explore the unknown…
June 22nd, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Drink tons of water to stay hydrated!
June 22nd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
I have heard of so many incidents where parents were relying on others to watch their kids while at pool parties or at other outdoor activities and their kids got hurt. I would say to keep a watchful eye on the kids at all times.
June 22nd, 2008 at 2:48 pm
sunscreen
June 22nd, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Always wear sunscreen and keep reapplying throughout the day!
June 22nd, 2008 at 6:31 pm
During the summer everyone loves to kick off their shoes and go barefoot which can lead to many hazards. I use my old footie socks and slip them on, while running around yard when they are too dirty or get holey I throw away, That way my feet are still protected somewhat.
Also great for walking the beach, no more hot sand ( little kids love this not getting sand between their toes) and you can get them wet and not ruin a good pair of flip flops or sandals. Thank you for giving me a chance to win.
June 22nd, 2008 at 6:47 pm
sunblock of at least 50 everytime they get out of water
June 23rd, 2008 at 10:36 am
never leave your children unattended in the water!
June 23rd, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Before our kids go to an amusement park we use henna to place a decorative temporary tatoo on the lower arm or wrist. This will help others to spot my kid if he gets lost.

June 23rd, 2008 at 2:33 pm
My newphew would like this.

June 24th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
We live in Florida and when going to our beaches it is a must to bring along a spray bottle of water & vinegar or water & meat tenderizer. There are jelly fish, get stung and it ruins the whole outing. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen!
June 24th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

My son would look spiffy in this!
June 24th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
this would be so cute on my grandson
June 24th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
I slather my son with sunscreen from head to toe before putting on his bathing suit to make sure that no area goes untouched. It also gives the lotion a chance to get absorbed into the skin for a little boost of added protection.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Sunscreen of course, but not a ton of it! We live in the northwest with lots of rain so the kids, to help with being healthy physically & mentally, get some good natural sun as well. I keep a sunscreen on the kitchen counter, 1 in the car, 1 in the kids bag and one in my purse (for me!) Water. Lip balm. But most of all, just keeping an eye out watching my children play and enjoy the world!
June 24th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Make sure your kids have swimming lessons!!!
June 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
My son will use these at the sea
June 25th, 2008 at 7:35 am
This would be great for my son to have this summer! Thank you for this opportunity!
June 25th, 2008 at 8:18 am
My tip isn’t about swimming, but its for summer. When my kids are outside, alot of the times (when it was cold) they end up getting in my car and play/hide/pretend to drive, etc… so as soon as it started getting warm, I make sure my car is locked every time before they go out to play.
June 25th, 2008 at 8:31 am
My nephew in Florida would really be able to use this!
June 25th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Never leave a child alone around water!

June 25th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Lot of sunscreen and never leave children unattended at pools.
June 25th, 2008 at 11:11 am
Tons of sunscreen and no running near pools, ponds, etc.

I’m a lifeguard and I’ve seen this happen a few times, even if your child is a good swimmer, please keep an eye on them, you never know when a cramp or anything simple can happen and they’re under the water before you know it. And remember lifeguards are there for safety, not for babysitters.
June 25th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Land’s End is the best. Thanks for the opportunity.
June 25th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
My safety tips: wear plenty of sunscreen, stay hydrated, and watch those little swimmers. Older kids should never swim alone.
June 25th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Wear sunscreen and bug spray
June 25th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Never let you kid/s go swimming alone, always make sure you are right there with them.

June 25th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
When your children are in the water, don’t take your eyes off them!
June 25th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
My best advice for summer is sunblock, sunblock, sunblock! Cannot emphasize this enought!
June 25th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Nothing is more important than sunscreen – except to watch your child, of course!
June 25th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Clip car keys to beach bag so car keys do not get lost or stolen and that way purse stays in car or van and have just a small amount of cash in bottom of beach bag…..and no one is the wiser…with food…I learned this the hard way…lost keys with wallet attached left in the sand or with someones hot hands…never to be found someone enjoyed the extra $20….and My Drivers license and credit cards which had to be reported and all the headaches…of canceling…easier this way….
June 25th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Remember that eyes need sun protection too. Even little eyes need sunglasses!
June 25th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
My kids play hard, so my summer safety tip is to remember kids can get heat stroke. Even with sunscreen on, make sure they get enough fluids, and a break in the shade or water on really hot days.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Always carry Benedryl. You never know when someone will have an allergic reaction to a bug bite.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Lots of water…We love in Arizona so I always have water with us. I so worry that my little one will get overheated.
June 26th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen!!!!!!
June 26th, 2008 at 12:55 am
best tip… watch your children and ask your friends who are with you to keep an eye on them and be near enough to help.
June 26th, 2008 at 5:38 am
especially watch them when at the pool or lake/beach
June 26th, 2008 at 6:06 am

June 26th, 2008 at 6:29 am
Always swim with a buddy!
June 26th, 2008 at 6:32 am
When your child is riding in the car, they still need sunscreen on them. My son’s cheeks get red when he rides in a car with no sunscreen.
June 26th, 2008 at 7:04 am
Make sure to get sunscreen on tops of his ears. Love the clothes!
June 26th, 2008 at 9:43 am
My best tip summer tip is bicycle safety. Our town hosts a Bicycle Safety Course at the beginning of each summer & I bring my boys to each & every one of them. They learn alot & I am able to worry a little less about them on their bikes. Thanks!!
June 26th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Sun protection , sun screen, monitor your time in the sun, use a good Sunblock and reapply often.
Best of all have fun.
Don’t let the sun spoil
your fun by making you
uncomfortable from a burn!
Have a great SUMMER ALL!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:44 am
My son would love this!!!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Apply sunscreen BEFORE going in the sun. Sunscreen needs time to activate before protecting.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:18 am
How cute would Ian look in this? Okay my tip(s) sunscreen applied liberally at least 30 minutes before you go out the first time each day and teach your children to swim and be used to the water as early as possible but don’t take your eyes off of them even after they learn.
Oh, and since I grew up around the water it was common knowledge to me but I recently found out that it isn’t plastered all over the news everywhere- the overcast days are the ones you can get the WORST burns from so even if it looks safe- sunscreen, sunscreen and more sunscreen.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Use sun screen wether directly in sunlight or not when outside in the summer time and apply it every 1/2 hour if in water or on beach
June 26th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Best summer safety tip would be to always swim with a buddy or for that matter participate in any outside activity without a buddy.
June 26th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
If you have a pool, your neighbors have a pool, or there is a pool close by, make sure to watch that the little ones closely so that they don’t wonder off to go play in the pool by themselves.

June 26th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Keep them hydrated and use lots of sunscreen!
June 26th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Definitely use lots of sunscreen! Also, don’t take your pets out with you in the car (to run errands or anything else) on really hot days.
Cute stuff – great giveaway!
June 26th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
It has already been said but my tip is to drink plenty of water and everyone wears sunscreen.
June 26th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Please becareful when the kids bury themselves or each other in the sand, the sand can collapse or trap the child or the weight of it can impair breathing and lead to death.
I love the Landsend swimtrunks, they are one a few companies that make slim swim trucks so my son doesn’t bare all swimming in the ocean.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Buy/make a small first aid kit that you can take with you everywhere during the summer. I don’t know how many times my kids have gotten an “owie” while we’ve been out on vacation and other summer fun trips. I’d love to have this set for my son- thanks for the giveaway!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Even dark kids need sunblock too, like my own. Some mothers of darker children seem to forget that or believe its true.
July 19th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
The best tip for a toddler around the pool would be to wear some non skid shoes. Thanks for entering me. Sara
