Babywearing: We Do It!
Posted by: Laura on November 16th, 2008
Did you guys know that we’re in the midst of International Babywearing Week? Well, now you know! If you’re not familiar with babywearing, and you do or will have an infant, you should look into it. Babywearing is many things-fashionable, trendy, fun, comfortable, but most importantly, babywearing is GOOD for YOU and GOOD for your BABY.
All of us mums are babywearers! Jaymi wears her little boy all the time. They love their BabyHawk the most. Naomi and her old man both love Bronwen. Lisa’s just getting started with slings, and we’re trying to get her some that both she & her husband will love too! I’ve been wearing Lennon since the day he was born, and I’ve loved every minute of it. My husband wears him too! I’ve got several slings in my babywearing repertoire, but my favorites are my Nonny & Boo Light Brite and Bamboo, and my Rockin’ Baby Slings.
Some may find babywearing to be on the pricey side, and it can be, but there are many ways to get slings for less! Find a friend that wears their baby, and borrow a sling (most of us have multiple slings), buy one from eBay (just make sure you are purchasing a SAFE sling), swap with friends, or use SlingCycle! The creator of Nonny & Boo has recently started this unique organization, and it’s sure to be a huge hit for people all over the place interested in babywearing! If you want to participate in babywearing week with a post of your own, be sure to talk about it here.
By now you might be aware that Motrin has put up an ad that many babywearers find offensive, including me (as of the publication of this post, it is still up). It’s many things, but supportive of babywearing, it is not. It has caused a big stir on Twitter and blogs from babywearing moms all over the country. If you also find this Motrin ad inaccurate and misleading (as we do-among all of us, nary a one has had any pain due to babywearing *when it’s done correctly & you have no history of back problems*), please take the time to tell Motrin. Also, go here to see the running list of parents that aren’t happy!
*We’d like to thank Motrin for taking down this ad on their website. Unfortunately, the ad will still run in publications. We’ll keep you updated!
