Loop- A Fiber-Mums Best Dream
Posted by: annaholler on November 6th, 2009
I have a love/hate relationship with the local Philadelphia yarn shop Loop. I mean, I love it. I’d love it more if it were just an online entity, rather a place that I can walk to, walk into, and lose my mind and all of my sensibilities and sense of budget to the skeins of yarn begging to be picked up, imagined into hats and socks, and taken home with me. I feel that if this were just an online store, my marriage might be more solid and my children might be bejeweled beyond balls of yarn. But it’s not folks. It’s REAL. And now that I’ve been there, I can never forget the high. And I don’t know that I can ever get this high again.
Today, I stood in Loop, crazed, delerious, holding this skein of yarn from Black Bunny Fibers.
The owner said, “It’s beautiful isn’t it? This is a local artist. She just drops one or two off at a time. That’s it. All we have is all we got in. I can’t believe it’s even still here.”
I don’t know what came over me. I bought it. I bought ALL of it. I don’t even know what I’m going to do with it. This is the most beautiful yarn I’ve ever seen. It’s like spun gold.
I am in love. Yet, I am so guilty because I have no right to buy yarn that costs what this yarn costs. Yet it is worth it. But nothing is worth it. But this is worth it. Oh yes. Oh yesohyesohyes.
Spun gold.
