Powdered Sugar Baby

kushie-tushiePowdered Sugar Baby tags itself as “functional fashion for on-the-go parents.”  This company is powered by a family who is bonded by sweets and based in Chicago and Denver.  Powdered Sugar Baby began as a creative idea between sisters, Kris and Anna, and has grown into a sassy business venture that is guided by their mother.

Powdered Sugar Baby specializes in four adorable products that were created to make fashionable parents lives a little bit easier.  The first is the  sugar sleeve, a product designed to slip over bracelets and watches when you are holding your baby.  It enables you to still be able to check the time without scratching your newborn and better yet, the sugar sleeve doubles as a burp cloth or cover for your favorite sippy cup!

The Boutique Hair Clips are a perfect, bright, fun accessory to pull those baby wisps away from your baby’s face!

The Sugar Baby Blanket is wildly soft and made from chenille/minky fabrics that are reversible based on preference.  They’re sized for stroller rides and nappy car trips!

3952781625_088eb9ed22Powdered Sugar Baby was sweet enough to send me a Kushie Tushie to review!  This pad makes a perfect cushion for my stroller.  The print is fun and the fabric seems durable without being harsh or abrasive on your child’s skin. If my children were younger I would definitely turn my kushie tushie into a cushion for the changing table.

The size is perfect for high chairs and grocery carts too!  My thought is that the Kushie Tushie will work well for a new mom with a newborn baby and then will grow with your family!  I found my four year old has made it a permanent bed for her American Girl doll!

Broccoli and Cheese Soup

broccoli-cheddar-soupToday marks my first attempt at making broccoli and cheese soup.  I’m having one of those mornings where I wanted to create something incredible for lunch by using only things we have in our pantry.  I hoped for it to be creative, relatively easy and new to my children.

My children will regularly beg me to stop at Panera to buy them a bowl of broccoli and cheese soup.  After researching recipes online, I felt knowledgeable enough to give it a-go.  I didn’t have everything that each recipe required, so where I fell short, I improvised!

I suggest serving this with toasted flatbread!  Mmmmm.

Happy slurping!

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cups of boiling water

3 chicken bouillon cubes

1/2 tsp. salt

2 cups 2% milk

1 cup frozen broccoli (fresh would have been better, but I didn’t have it.)

1 sprinkle dried basil

a few shakes of pepper

1 shake of garlic salt

3 tbsp. butter

3 tbsp flour

2 finely chopped garlic cloves

3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 shredded carrot

HOW TO:

Boil water and add bouillon cubes in a large sauce pan.

In a separate pan melt butter and brown garlic

Add flour and stir constantly until the flour is well mixed

Add the flour mix to the broth/ water mixture

Stir together

Add milk and stir in cheeses

Stir in broccoli

Stir in carrot

Add seasonings

reduce heat to a simmer and cover.

Let simmer for about 1/2 and hour!

ENJOY!!!!!

Creative Girly Takes On The World!

girlyThe glue doesn’t fall far from the stick!“  Such is certainly the case for mother/daughter power-craft duo, Stampin’ Mama and her little Girly!

You  may remember the four week series MTW ran on Stampin’ Mama a couple of months back.  She’s certainly one of our favorite craftsters here! Recently, her own craft loving daughter, Girly, opened up an Etsy shop and began a crafting blog.  I am blown away by how talented Girly really is!  Her soaps are creative, fun and amazingly professional in packaging and appearance.

Girly’s shop is home to her handmade soaps.  You will find anything from bars of oatmeal and ylang-ylang soap to lemon scented gold and green sun soaps fashioned into the shape of frogs!

Stop in Girly’s Shop to support this tiny-talent!  Everything Girly makes is very reasonably priced, ranging from about $2.50 to $10.00.  Better still, Girly donates 20% of all proceeds to www.village2villageproject.org – a grass-roots project helping orphaned children in Uganda!

Invisible Stripes: Get Your Stripes On

dsc06320We love finding unique companies with a keen eye for children’s clothing.  We happened to stumble upon a company that carries interesting, cool, fun, and eye-catching duds for your little ones.  It always makes my day when people ask, “Wow, where did you find that??”  Invisible Stripes is just one of those special companies that caters to parents like us, that want their children to stand out from the crowd.  In their own words, Invisible stripes is a lifestyle boutique that carries street inspired contemporary clothing (and they do have a men’s & women’s line too!).

Invisible Stripes carries hip onesies & shoes for infants, and outerwear & t-shirts for the tots.  Noel is the proud recipient of Cheshire Toddler.  This  dsc06317-1cool cat puts on his blue stripes when he’s in contact with sunlight!  I had no idea that the shirt changed colors until I took him outside.  It’s adorable and always catches people’s eyes when they see it change from no stripes to stripes right before their very eyes (and it’s not anything like a hypercolor shirt ;) ).  Lennon’s “I’m Kind of a Big Deal” shirt is actually 3-D and came with an old school pair of 3-D glasses!  Both of my little guys look so cute in their Invisible Stripes shirts, and there are many more styles to choose from, that are perfect for gals & guys of any little age.  I’m particularly smitten with “Bird Flu” & “Hungry“, and they also have the super popular Lumberjack T’s!

Wouldn’t you LOVE one of these super cool shirts for your hip kid?  WIN IT!  Win a t-shirt + 2 50% off coupons (to give to friends (or to keep for yourself!)  Visit the Invisible Stripes website & tell us your favorite styleENTER HERE!  Contest ends September 15, 2009 at 10 PM.  For a 2nd entry, tweet me, and tell me that you’re following Invisible Stripes on Twitter as well!

We’re Bananas about The Space Monkey Shop

5Hey Friends!  Remember our new little shop we just opened?  Well, we have seen the actual 12″ x 12″ prints up close and personal, and they are gorgeous!  I’m planning a mad uploading session that involves more dinosaurs (Dino-Shores) and more jungle animals (Jungle Jazz).  What’s on the horizon for Space Monkey?  Well, Zany Monsters, Rag Dolls, and Teddy Bears!

And don’t worry, MumsTheWurd! is not going to turn into the Space Monkey Blog (Space Monkey’s got one of those…), but I’m just excited about this venture into our own business…so, I’ll talk about it from time to time, and also tell you when we’re having sales (like the one going on right now- 15% off with the coupon code “BLASTOFF”).

We’ve also had a bit of publicity already, which is very exciting…BabyLuxe {daily} will review the Jazzy Giraffes in August, but they loved us so much, they put up a special post on Sunday!  Wasn’t that sweet?  And we also got a mention in NBC DFW’s “Around Town” section.

Is it appropriate for me to say “Boo-Yah”?

Kiwi and Me

il_fullxfull60021397

Have you seen the new Etsy shop called Kiwi and Me?  It may be the best thing to happen to chicks and Hens alike.  Driven by Mama Melissa, Kiwi and Me specializes in well made clothing for adults and children.

The children’s clothing often utilizes a simple design and is cut loosely, with comfort and durability.  Kiwi and Me favors muted colors and earth tones in fun and often vintage patterns.  The fabric really brings me back to my own childhood, before Hannah Montana t shirts existed.  It reminds me of a time when my friends and I could be found playing in the back yard with bare feet  in iced blue rompers flecked with strawberries! Fabric like this, actually!

I received the Sweet Sage and Pink Flowers Peasant Top and Short Pants to review.   What I like the most is that the outfit is really pretty and feminine without being flimsy, uncomfortable or restrictive.  My daughter can wear it to the park or to a birthday party.  It has a nice duel functionality in that sense.  My daughter loves this outfit because each time she wear it we’re stopped over and over and over by nice people with big compliments.  She really enjoys the attention.  She never tires of people telling her how beautiful she is!

Zutano Rocks! (duh)

zutano logoOh, Zutano. How I love this company. When Roo was little, all my favorite outfits of hers were mix and match Zutano. In fact, if they still made the chocolate brown kitty catwalk print and offered in her current size (5/6), I would buy the whole shebang. Geez, I would buy it in my size, too, who am I kidding? Sadly, Zutano is only for little ones, from newborns (including preemies!) through 4T.

Zutano clothes are made of comfy cotton in whimsical prints and a rainbow of colors. They are cut generously so they fit my kids for quite a while (especially petite princess Roo who could probably still fit into their 4T without looking too tawdry) and sleeves and legs can be rolled up or down to accommodate the weather and growth spurts. Zutano clothing is unbelievably soft and washes well with no pilling and very little fading.

Jasper in zutanoJasper was lucky enough to receive a couple of super cute Zutano outfits recently and the one we’ve been getting the most wear out of is the Rock Star tee and Guitar print pants. People stop us to find out where we got the pants, they are that stinking adorable… I mean cool. There was another print I was dying over, I think it was called Garage Band, but it appears to have sold out already. Tiny LPs and boomboxes, etc. I was sad they didn’t have that print in the girls’ styles. And, again, in my size. I would love to have a skirt or jumper in the guitar print or garage rock print, for sure! Jasper thinks they need more robot prints, too.

Endings & Beginnings

We are sad to announce that Fooey USA will be closing it’s virtual doors.  However, they are having a closeout sale that you won’t want to miss!  It’s all rad stuff, and it’s super cheap!  My mom got these shorts for Noel & Lennon (they won’t fit Noel next summer) for $8.99!  They are SOOOOO CUTE.  Fooey’s also got the best collection of shirts for kids and infants.  Some are as low as $3.99, people, but they won’t last!  Get over there, and say goodbye to one of the best stores out there.  Fooey, we are sorry to see you go!

On a sunnier note, Ashlee has come up with a new name for her store!  Nonny & Boo, formerly Nest Baby Sling, now offers even more great items, like wraps (that are the coolest EVER), hoodies, and plushies!  As usual, Ashlee’s wares are quite simply the coolest!  Pictured here, are Steph and Ivy in nonny & boo’s bamboo sling.  We have this sling, and Elliott and I share it.  We love it.  The fabric is light, but very strong, and it works well going out in the Texas heat.  We just heart the lady over at nonny & boo, and you will too.
