Leapfrog Adds More Fun: Zippity!

200529The Leapfrog Zippity is yet another genius toy from this forward thinking company.  The Zippity gets your child moving, jumping, and thinking all at the same time.  The Zippity comes with 8 pre-loaded Disney-themed games, including Mickey Mouse and Little Einsteins.

The Zippity is a large pad with a big, easy to use joystick attached.  The games usually begin by jumping to “start” your rocket, scooter, etc.  The game will then get your child thinking by asking them to find specific things, or move to a specific color on the pad.  All the games are very simple, and increase in skill as your child becomes more adept at using the Zippity.

Noel loves using the Zippity and was able to use it out of the box.  The instructions are simple and walk your child through the process easily.  With some initial parent set-up (again, very easy), you’ll be Zippity-ing in minutes.  The Zippity will keep your children active during the long winter when it’s too cold, rainy, or snowy to go out and run around for any length of time.

If you’d like one of your own, we’ve got one to give away!

WIN IT!

Win one Zippety for your child to enjoy.  The Zippity is age appropriate for children about 3-5.  Go HERE and enter (use “Zippity” as the contest name)!  It’s that simple!  We’ll pick one winner on November 20th, 2009 at 10 PM CST.  Good luck!

Invisible Stripes: Get Your Stripes On

dsc06320We love finding unique companies with a keen eye for children’s clothing.  We happened to stumble upon a company that carries interesting, cool, fun, and eye-catching duds for your little ones.  It always makes my day when people ask, “Wow, where did you find that??”  Invisible Stripes is just one of those special companies that caters to parents like us, that want their children to stand out from the crowd.  In their own words, Invisible stripes is a lifestyle boutique that carries street inspired contemporary clothing (and they do have a men’s & women’s line too!).

Invisible Stripes carries hip onesies & shoes for infants, and outerwear & t-shirts for the tots.  Noel is the proud recipient of Cheshire Toddler.  This  dsc06317-1cool cat puts on his blue stripes when he’s in contact with sunlight!  I had no idea that the shirt changed colors until I took him outside.  It’s adorable and always catches people’s eyes when they see it change from no stripes to stripes right before their very eyes (and it’s not anything like a hypercolor shirt ;) ).  Lennon’s “I’m Kind of a Big Deal” shirt is actually 3-D and came with an old school pair of 3-D glasses!  Both of my little guys look so cute in their Invisible Stripes shirts, and there are many more styles to choose from, that are perfect for gals & guys of any little age.  I’m particularly smitten with “Bird Flu” & “Hungry“, and they also have the super popular Lumberjack T’s!

Wouldn’t you LOVE one of these super cool shirts for your hip kid?  WIN IT!  Win a t-shirt + 2 50% off coupons (to give to friends (or to keep for yourself!)  Visit the Invisible Stripes website & tell us your favorite styleENTER HERE!  Contest ends September 15, 2009 at 10 PM.  For a 2nd entry, tweet me, and tell me that you’re following Invisible Stripes on Twitter as well!

Huggies Pure & Natural Diapers

pn_homepage_08I was sent a pack of Huggies’ new line of diapers called “pure & natural” to try out on the new sprout. Well, I couldn’t just let the pack sit there without taking one of these newborn-size diapers out to get a first-hand look and feel of it. The hubs and I have been tossing back and forth this itty bitty diaper for a couple of weeks now. We’re still sort of in disbelief that we’re going to have another baby small enough to actually use it.

It’s. So. Tiny.

Not only is it super small (because it’s the newborn size), it’s very, very soft. One of the softest disposable diapers I have ever felt. I can’t imagine it will be anything other than comfy on our new baby girl.

Now, I have to admit, we are leaning the cloth diapering way this time around for many reasons but I will say, I was interested enough in this new line by Huggies that I have no problem at all giving them a try.

If you still have little ones in diapers, up to a size 5, here are some official stats about Huggies pure & natural for you to consider. These diapers:

  • are hypoallergenic
  • are fragrance free
  • have organic cotton included in their breathable outer cover
  • have a liner that includes natural Aloe & Vitamin E and materials from renewable sources
  • outer packaging is sourced from 20 percent post-consumer recycled materials

It’s safe to say that Huggies is thinking about the environment with this new line. They have to. That’s the way the world is going. It only makes sense.

Huggies pure & natural diapers are available at major retailers now. They are brand new on the market as of this past April, 2009. I imagine I will pick up a few more packs of these diapers along the way because I’m sure it never hurts to have some disposables around even if we end up exclusively cloth diapering.

If you’re interested in trying them out yourself, you can go to www.HuggiesPureandNatural.com and request free samples.

One more thing to make you aware of, Huggies has a new “rewards” program in place. It’s called “Enjoy the Ride Rewards. You can get points numerous different ways. Just stop by the website and check out the details.

**WIN A PACKAGE OF SIZE ONE OR TWO HUGGIES PURE AND NATURAL DIAPERS!!!  GO HERE TO ENTER!  Contest ends June 22, 2009.  This is a great opportunity to try these out and see what they are all about!!**

The Original Octopi Baby Blanket

I’m very excited to share one of my finds with you, not only because I love the product, but also because it is made by one of my very oldest and dearest friends, Angie!  Angie started out like any of us-a mom that needed a way to comfort her youngest son.  The Octopi Baby was born.

In her own words, “The Octopi Baby Blanket was created to help Rylan learn to self-soothe himself to sleep. After many heart-breaking nights of trying the ‘cry it out method’, I made it my mission to create something that would help him make it through bed time without the anxiety and crying. His Octopi worked so well for him, my family and friends encouraged me to share my success with other parents. The Octopi Baby Blanket is designed to help your baby transition from play to sleep. The eight tactile ribbons help calm your baby with peaceful sensory activity. Your baby’s Octopi will become their familiar and comforting friend to hold and love as they drift away into peaceful sleep.”

We were also one of Angie’s very first test marketers, so we have had lots of experience with the Octopi Baby, and I will attest to the greatness of this “lovie”.  Lennon loved the Octopi when he was smaller.  Both of my sons have been, much to my chagrin, very into licking things when they were exploring the world as babies, and the Octopi was in his mouth all. the. time.  He used the “coarser” ribbons when he was teething.  The Octopi is great for babies, and quickly becomes their comfort blanket of choice.  Oh, not to mention how cute, and bright, and fun they are!!!

Through May 31st, become a fan of Octopi Baby on Facebook, and you’ll be entered to win one of your very own. Trust me, my friends, these blankies are the bomb! Go here to start shopping!  If you have a special request, email her, and Angie will do her best to accommodate you!

Mums the Word. And the Wurd.

flor room view

I love Flor. What’s not to love about carpet tiles? Especially when they’re eco-friendly, with some of the lowest Volatile Organic Compound emissions (VOCs) in the floor-coverings industry. Combine that with their imminent portability, endless color and graphic options, and the ability to pick up a single tile for cleaning and you have a great flooring solution for families. We have a couple of Flor rugs in our home and I can’t extoll their virtues enough… they really are fabulous, especially since I have a toddler who likes to grind berries into the floor and a couple of cats who like to, uh, mark their territory.

flor detailFlor’s graphic prints are my favorite. We have the Souk Chic in our family room and I have the Alexander Girard La Fonda del Sol in my office. There’s a new Girard print coming soon, and I am giddy just thinking about it! Another absolutely gorgeous print for Spring is the Mums The Word area rug. Which reminds me of a certain blog. I think the Mums The Word could go with an eclectic, bold decorating style or something more subdued and Martha-esque. (Did I mention there’s a Martha Stewart Flor Collection?) Can’t you see this underfoot in your home?

Win it! To enter and win a Mums the Word six tile (3′ x 5′) area rug, please CLICK HERE to enter. The winner will be randomly selected and notified via email.

Entries will be accepted through May 27th. US readers are eligible. Only one entry per person, please.

Zutano Rocks! (duh)

zutano logoOh, Zutano. How I love this company. When Roo was little, all my favorite outfits of hers were mix and match Zutano. In fact, if they still made the chocolate brown kitty catwalk print and offered in her current size (5/6), I would buy the whole shebang. Geez, I would buy it in my size, too, who am I kidding? Sadly, Zutano is only for little ones, from newborns (including preemies!) through 4T.

Zutano clothes are made of comfy cotton in whimsical prints and a rainbow of colors. They are cut generously so they fit my kids for quite a while (especially petite princess Roo who could probably still fit into their 4T without looking too tawdry) and sleeves and legs can be rolled up or down to accommodate the weather and growth spurts. Zutano clothing is unbelievably soft and washes well with no pilling and very little fading.

Jasper in zutanoJasper was lucky enough to receive a couple of super cute Zutano outfits recently and the one we’ve been getting the most wear out of is the Rock Star tee and Guitar print pants. People stop us to find out where we got the pants, they are that stinking adorable… I mean cool. There was another print I was dying over, I think it was called Garage Band, but it appears to have sold out already. Tiny LPs and boomboxes, etc. I was sad they didn’t have that print in the girls’ styles. And, again, in my size. I would love to have a skirt or jumper in the guitar print or garage rock print, for sure! Jasper thinks they need more robot prints, too.

Holiday Hit List

Okay, maybe not that kind of hit list… phew! But here are some of the things I think are sure-fire hits for gift-giving this holiday season. Keep your eyes peeled for giveaways, too!

Stocking Stuffers

stamp

For the preschool set: The Little Stamp Company’s eponymous product is a personalized, self-inking stamp that allows your child to print his or name– no matter how unusual or esoterically-spelled it may be. The dotted font encourages your child to practice tracing the letters of his or her name, learning to spell it in the process. My 4 3/4 year old daughter, Roo, LOVES her Little Stamp and uses it all the time. She actually asked why I hadn’t ordered one for her little brother yet, so he could learn to spell his name. Uh, because Jasper is only 16 months old and the concept of him running around with ink of any kind strikes fear in my heart. <a href=”http://www.littlestamp.com/home.html”>The Little Stamp Company</a> was founded by a mompreneur who ensured that it features washable and non-toxic ink, so I don’t need to be too frightened!

For the newly-competent eater: The new Saucer by one of my favorite baby/kid outfitters, Boon, is a plate designed to keep from being picked up (and/or flung) by tiny hands. It features three sections to keep food segregated for picky eaters, plus a non-slip base to keep it in place. Boon’s design aesthetic is easy on the eyes AND ensures that Saucer is easy to wash, too.

Be on the lookout for Boon’s forthcoming line of bath toys in the new year. These BPA and phtalate-free duckies are just a sampling of the new collection, which looks just as cute as the old toys but, in my opinion, way more fun to play with.

For the girly girls: Piggy Paint is a mom-created line of kid-friendly nail polishes. Unlike your average manicure varnishes, Piggy Paint is non-toxic and odorless so it’s safer for the environment and certainly for your kids. Especially if your little girl is a thumbsucker like mine! It comes in a variety of colors, both classic and crazy, so you’re sure to find one that appeals to any tastes. Piggy Paint’s water-based formula actually has decent staying power, too. Much better than the old peel-off kiddie polishes of my youth!

WIN IT! Win a Piggy Paint Clouds of Candy gift set (includes two blue polishes and remover)! Enter HERE and tell us your favorite Piggy Paint color!  Contest runs through 12/17/08, 10 PM CST.

Video games make great stocking stuffers, too, and there are a bunch of family-friendly titles out right now. Roo loves Build-a-Bear Workshop A Friend Fur All Seasons which lets her cast off in the FriendShip for adventure on the high seas with various furry friends. The mini-games are just right for her attention span and the graphics are as cute and cuddly as you would expect. I prefer Rubik’s World. It takes the nostalgia you feel for the old Rubik’s Cube and combines it into a 3-D version of Tetris that is highly addictive. Be warned! You could lose hours on this one. Build-a-Bear Workshop A Friend Fur All Seasons and Rubik’s World are both available for Wii and DS platforms.

WIN IT! Win a copy of Build-a-Bear Workshop A Friend Fur All Seasons or Rubik’s World (your choice of format)! Enter HERE and tell us your favorite video game of all time!  Contest runs through 12/17/08, 10 PM CST.

Older kids will love Pet Pals Animal Doctor for Wii. This game is actually a veterinary simulation that lets players treat 30 different cases based on actual field experiences of working veterinarians, ranging from minor cases like sunburn, lacerations and infections to more serious problems like diabetes, tumors and snakebites. With Pet Pals Animal Doctor, players use the Wii controller to simulate veterinary tools and even perform surgeries! My favorite part is the recovery room where you can feed, clean and play with your animal patients… without the real-world mess or biting.

DVDs

Cartoons that feature siblings who not only get along but actually like each other are hard to find. My kids love Pinky Dinky Doo and I am so glad that it’s available on DVD now! Polka Dot Pox is actually one of our favorite episodes and there are three others included, along with a plethora of interactive games. “Plethora” is a fancy word for lots and lots, as Pinky would say. I love that Pinky is smart, creative and very helpful to her little brother, Tyler. Polka Dot Pox rocks!

WIN IT! Win a copy of Pinky Dinky Doo: Polka Dot Pox! Enter HERE and tell us your favorite TV siblings!  Contest runs through 12/17/08, 10 PM CST.

If you have a daughter, chances are she likes ballet. Or, like mine, loves the concept of ballet more than the actual process of attending ballet classes. Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake is a wonderful DVD to introduce youngsters to ballet. It intersperses scenes from the Paris Opera Ballet performing Swan Lake with more casual scenes of students from the School of American Ballet learning basic ballet footwork and scenes of tutu-clad preschoolers playing ballerina while the animated fairy Prima Princessa explains the action. Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake is the perfect introduction to the world of dance. And so much easier to watch repeatedly than other princess dreck.

WIN IT! Win one of five copies of Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake! Enter HERE and tell us your favorite ballet!  Contest runs through 12/17/08, 10 PM CST.

Books

If you have bookworms on your list, here’s a novel idea: Excite Books is a monthly kid’s subscription service with a twist. In addition to getting your kids excited about reading, they hope to instill a sense of civic responsibility. You can choose to have 1, 2 or 3 age-appropriate (from infant to teen level books plus cookbooks and puzzle books for all ages), teacher-certified books delivered monthly and when the child is finished reading 12 of them,  a prepaid / preaddressed envelope is mailed for a child to donate none, some, or all of the Excite Books to a library in need. Right now, there is an introductory “Free Trial” that  includes 3 Excite Books, 1 Educational Activity, and 8 free gifts. The photo shows Roo and Jasper’s introductory Excite Books package. Roo especially loves the activity books and the bubbles! We donated two of the books after several reads.

WIN IT! Win an introductory Excite Books package! Enter HERE and tell us what age group you’d like to win it for!  Contest runs through 12/17/08, 10 PM CST.

I am a big fan of Chronicle Books and they have just released the perfect Christmas book for my kids: The Dinosaurs’ Night Before Christmas is a dinosaur-infested version of the holiday classic with all your favorite fossils having a Christmas Eve shindig. Roo is just crazy about it, especially the Parasauralophus for some reason! Included with The Dinosaurs’ Night Before Christmas is a CD featuring dino-fied holiday songs and an audio track of the story read by Al Roker. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book goes to support the American Museum of Natural History in New York, where the story is set.

Another fantastic Chronicle find for holiday giving is the Fairy Tree House, part book, part paper doll kit, part dollhouse. What looks like an ordinary hardcover book unfolds to reveal a multi-level, three-dimensional enchanted tree house, plus an illustrated fairy handbook and a pocket full of projects to punch out and assemble: make a fairy carousel, dress a fairy, and create a flapping dragonfly mobile. Roo loves this and the dollhouse is a good size to play with Polly Pockets and Littlest Pet Shop toys, too.
