We have one big, glaring problem when we sleep. My husband is a sleeping furnace. This issue is two-fold. He is always warm, and because he radiates heat, I am hot as well. In the summer in Texas, this is no fun.
Thankfully, Select Comfort has come up with a way to keep the two of us nice and cool while we slumber. While we don’t have a Sleep Number bed (yet…), we do have the Select Comfort In Balance Layer.
I was skeptical about whether or not the In Balance Layer would actually keep us cool in the summer, but the first time I layed down on it, it felt immediately cool! Since we’re trying to save money, we keep our home at 75 degrees at night, which is a pretty high temperature for us polar bears. Imagine this: I have been using our down comforter at night because I get COLD.
The Select Comfort In Balance Layer helps you save money and stay cool while you rest-and that makes for a good night’s sleep!

Hey Friends! Remember our new little shop we just opened? Well, we have seen the actual 12″ x 12″ prints up close and personal, and they are gorgeous! I’m planning a mad uploading session that involves more dinosaurs (Dino-Shores) and more jungle animals (Jungle Jazz). What’s on the horizon for Space Monkey? Well, Zany Monsters, Rag Dolls, and Teddy Bears!
And don’t worry, MumsTheWurd! is not going to turn into the Space Monkey Blog (Space Monkey’s got one of those…), but I’m just excited about this venture into our own business…so, I’ll talk about it from time to time, and also tell you when we’re having sales (like the one going on right now- 15% off with the coupon code “BLASTOFF”).
We’ve also had a bit of publicity already, which is very exciting…BabyLuxe {daily} will review the Jazzy Giraffes in August, but they loved us so much, they put up a special post on Sunday! Wasn’t that sweet? And we also got a mention in NBC DFW’s “Around Town” section.
Is it appropriate for me to say “Boo-Yah”?

I’ve had a pain in the neck since Roo was born five years ago. No, I’m not talking about my beloved daughter, although she certainly has her trying moments. I’m talking about the residual loss of sleep I’ve had since first getting pregnant and being forced to change my sleep habits. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been a back sleeper. Flat on my back, covers tucked tightly around my neck (to ward off vampires, duh!), motionless in deep, replenishing sleep. Of course, pregnant ladies aren’t supposed to lay flat on their backs so early on in my pregnancy I made the switch to side sleeping. I assumed I would just switch back once the baby was born but it just hasn’t happened. Not after Roo was born, not after Jasper was born. For some reason, I am still sleeping on my side and fitfully so. Now that both kids are sleeping through the night, I blame my pillows. I can’t seem to find the proper ones. I like firm pillows but not too hard. Soft but not mushy. Plus I tend to flip them all around since I have the world’s sweatiest head (aside from my kids, of course) so it has to stand up to a beating. I usually use two and swap them back and forth all night, bunching them and fluffing them to try and get comfortable. To no avail.
Thankfully, Tempur-Pedic offered to send me a couple of their fabulous pillows to test out. All of their pillows feature their proprietary Tempur material, a pressure-relieving foam that absorbs and distributes your body weight for maximum comfort and support. It conforms to your shape but immediately regains its original shape, eliminating pressure points. The invention of Tempur was inspired by the study of G-forces on astronauts and Tempur-Pedic is the only brand of mattresses and pillows recognized by NASA and certified by the Space Foundation. Literally, it is the science of sleep!
There are a wide variety of Tempur-Pedic Pillows to choose from, depending on your sleep style. I received the NeckPillow and the ComfortPillow.
The NeckPillow is a sculpted pillow recommended for those who need a therapeutic sleep posture. Its dual-lobe shape ergonomically supports your head, shoulders and neck to align your posture and help you get a more restful sleep. It is a bit funky looking but it does a great job of cradling your head and neck as you lay on your back, ensuring proper posture and comfort. It really helps me to remember to sleep on my back. I even bought a travel-sized one for Jasper to use since he is a fitful sleeper and it has seemed to help. (There is a similar style meant for side sleepers, too: the SidePillow would have been a lifesaver during pregnancy!)
The ComfortPillow is a more traditional-looking pillow but still very supportive thanks to the Tempur material.
I love that it looks and feels like a standard firm pillow but it gives a little, thanks to its plush zip cover. My husband tried to steal it from me immediately! I didn’t let him.
I am sleeping much better these days and would love to try sleeping on a Tempur-Pedic mattress one of these days. If I win the lottery, I would even consider getting them for the kids’ beds. They’re that comfortable. And everyone is happier with a good night’s sleep.

I love Flor. What’s not to love about carpet tiles? Especially when they’re eco-friendly, with some of the lowest Volatile Organic Compound emissions (VOCs) in the floor-coverings industry. Combine that with their imminent portability, endless color and graphic options, and the ability to pick up a single tile for cleaning and you have a great flooring solution for families. We have a couple of Flor rugs in our home and I can’t extoll their virtues enough… they really are fabulous, especially since I have a toddler who likes to grind berries into the floor and a couple of cats who like to, uh, mark their territory.
Flor’s graphic prints are my favorite. We have the Souk Chic in our family room and I have the Alexander Girard La Fonda del Sol in my office. There’s a new Girard print coming soon, and I am giddy just thinking about it! Another absolutely gorgeous print for Spring is the Mums The Word area rug. Which reminds me of a certain blog. I think the Mums The Word could go with an eclectic, bold decorating style or something more subdued and Martha-esque. (Did I mention there’s a Martha Stewart Flor Collection?) Can’t you see this underfoot in your home?
Win it! To enter and win a Mums the Word six tile (3′ x 5′) area rug, please CLICK HERE to enter. The winner will be randomly selected and notified via email.
Entries will be accepted through May 27th. US readers are eligible. Only one entry per person, please.

Since we’ve already told you about Bethany’s awesome store, I thought MumsTheWurd! could instead help spread the word about Bethany’s latest undertaking-adopting a new child! Baby Luxe is sponsoring a raffle on behalf of the Balsis family, who is preparing to go to Russia to meet the newest member of their family-a little girl, Addison.
From the BabyLuxe post:
Bethany & her husband have been very busy lately, preparing for their trip to Russia, to meet their future little girl, Addison; a Down Syndrome orphan whom she and her family are adopting in the coming weeks. The Balsis’ already have two biological children, a little boy Mason & a little girl Payton. Payton also has Down Syndrome, so the Balsis’ are well versed in the special care that Addison will require.
As many of you know, adoption is a very expensive process, and the costs to bring home their new little girl will likely be high. On top of that, Addison’s initial medical expenses will likely be high.
To help with this wonderful cause, BabyLuxe is proud to be co-hosting a major fund-raising event for the Balsis family, which is taking place on
The Mom Crowd. They will be selling raffle tickets for $5 each, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly towards the adoption of Addison.

Many of the designers that are donating to the raffle include: Serena & Lily, Bella Tunno, SaraBear Baskets, Baby Rock Apparel, SlickSugar, Ellie Bellie Kids, Made by Angie, Wet Happened? Wet Bags, Georgie Tees, Baby K’tan, JP Lizzy, Ribbies Clippies, Paperluxe Studio and more!
We hope that you will take a moment to check out the raffle, which ends on September 24th. Pick up a few raffle tickets; and whether you win or lose, simply know that you are contributing to bettering the life of a special little girl who is truly in need; Miss Addison.
Thanks a bunch!!
The Balsis’ are chronicling their adoption journey on their blog, Dreaming on an Angel. Go support them with a comment, or a contribution!
You can show your support by click the “Buy Now” PayPal button below. Donating just $5 will get you a raffle ticket to enter to win prizes listed over at The Mom Crowd. If you do not have PayPal, you can mail a check and include a note with your contact information to:

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind being seen at the pool hanging out with these guys. These are the most fashionable, trendy ducks I have ever laid eyes on and there are more where they came from.
At Designroom, you will find a slew of BUD luxury ducks like Moroccan, Punk and Peace duck pictured above. They are phthalate free and US and CE approved. You’re crazy if you think these are just fun for the kids…surprise someone with a luxury duck for their birthday or give one as a house-warming gift. Luxury ducks are $8.99 a pop.

I’m also digging this sweet swim ring in Daydream by BUD($12). I’ll be rockin’ this baby in the north woods in a few weeks.
I may have to splurge and get the matching BUD beach ball ($12). It would be fun hitting this 36″ inflatable around in the lake!
I could talk and talk about the BUD products by Designroom but I really don’t want to delay you from heading over to their website and browsing around the rest of the cool products there. Check out all of the fab new summertime products while you’re there!

I do not own any fancy-schmancy wall art. As a matter of fact, it took my husband and I a little over three years after moving into our home to finally settle on some framed art for above our couch. We’re a slight bit picky in the art department.
Now that I’m fortunate enough to be put in touch with some companies who make and sell unique art, it’s nice to have the ability to browse around their websites and take my pick without leaving my house. I’m talking about the company, “A is for art“. They have some cute and whimsical artwork available from cats with gumball machines on their heads (my favorite!) to ostrich’s with a slice of cantaloupe, an olive and cherries on their heads. These are images that are fun and can boost your child’s imagination.
Next time you’re in the market for some funky and colorful art, head over to A is for Art and take a look around.

Slowly but surely, we have transformed my toddler’s crib into her “big girl bed”. We went from lowering the mattress, to taking down one rail, to transitioning to a full-on bed with no rails (up against a wall). Sure, it’s a tad bit smaller than a twin size but all thirty-four inches of her (including at least 10 stuffed animals) fits onto it just swimmingly.
Speaking of swimming, for the entire month of March, the Mermaids kid’s bedding is on sale at Olive Kids. The Mermaids’ designs are so colorful and cuddly. Along with the bedding, you will find other matching room decor, such as; the Mermaids clock, wall border and framed prints to name a few. Some items can also be personalized. Click HERE to view all of the Mermaids’ items at OK. This is one of the things that I love most about Olive Kids, they give you the ability to coordinate your child’s room decor and accessories.
Now, I opted for OK’s brand new Tea Party design for our bedding, since we have more of a “pretty in pink” kind of theme going on. Nothing says “big girl room” like tea cups and muffins! I love the light-weight, cotton comforter and sheet set. There have been some peaceful nights in our house now that she’s all cuddled up in her Tea Party toddler bedding.
Olive Kids has a great selection of colorful, fun designs for both boys and girls alike. Whenever I am in search of some new decor and accessories, I always turn to Olive Kids because I know their selections will not disappoint.
News of interest:
-OK is offering free shipping on orders over $175 within the continental U.S. until May 31, 2008.
-Sign up for the OK catalog and email list and you’re automatically entered to win a $25 gift certificate (offered on a monthly basis)

I’m a picky mom when it comes to toy storage in my house. I don’t want too many storage bins or toy boxes lying around with toys hanging out of them. One little predicament we managed to get ourselves into was too many of those furry friends piling up, also known as “stuffed animals”. The more we weed out, the more we accumulate. I know that we will have a never-ending supply of stuffed animals for years to come.
A unique manufacturer of baby, kid and parenting products by the name of Boon has a sensible solution to your stuffed friend pile-up. It’s called the Animal Bag. The Animal Bag is a Godsend. I have freed up so many shelves and toy boxes because of this fabulous invention.
Animal Bags are available in different sizes and colors. Not only are they a perfect storage solution, they are a great option for extra seating. Your child’s precious softies are easy to get in and out of the bag thanks to the over sized zippers and mesh windows.
As a part of our First Anniversary Bash, Boon is giving our readers a chance to win an Oval Animal Bag (a $60 retail value)! The winner may choose from two colors, pink or green.
